Problem-solving where machines can’t just roll in.
Not every job gives you a flat, open site. Some projects test your problem-solving before the digger even touches the ground. That was the case at Milford School, where Abbotts was engaged to carry out slip remediation and stabilisation work on a challenging coastal slope behind the school.
With limited access and soft terrain, this job required some creative thinking—starting with craning in the machinery over school buildings and sheltered structures.
When the only way in is the sky
In what might be one of our most memorable machine deliveries, our team coordinated the lift-in of a full-size CAT 309 excavator via crane, carefully navigating over rooflines, trees, and tight clearances to access the work zone.
Once boots were on the ground (or tracks, rather), we tackled:
Slope stabilisation and shaping to manage further slip risk
Excavation and vegetation clearing to access affected zones
Remedial earthworks to rebuild lost land and support structures
Safe operation in and around sensitive school grounds
The site’s location beside the water and under tree cover added to the complexity—but that’s where our experienced civil crews shine.
Thinking ahead—so schools don’t fall behind
Abbotts is increasingly called in to support public infrastructure where trust, reliability, and problem-solving are key. We know how to work in and around schools, and we’ve got the team and gear to solve problems most crews can’t even reach.
Projects like this demonstrate our capability to:
Deliver under pressure and within tight access constraints
Work safely around active school sites
Provide practical long-term land and water management solutions
Safe, smart, and ready for anything
Landslip sites aren’t forgiving—and neither are school calendars. That’s why clients trust Abbotts to get it done fast, clean, and with minimal disruption.
